At a crucial juncture in his life, a reclusive, severely obese (600 pounds) English teacher (Brendan Fraser) attempts a reconciliation with his estranged teenage daughter (Sadie Sink). Several friends of this basically sweet man have been urging him to seek help for his failing physical condition, but he is resistant. Darren Aronofsky’s emotionally intense character study involving acceptance and forgiveness affords Fraser the role of a lifetime—and he (with restricted mobility) uses his voice and expressive eyes to stunning effect.
