Rural Ireland: early ’80’s. A withdrawn little girl (Catherine Clinch) from a large, poor, neglectful family is shipped off to live with childless foster parents (Carrie Crowley and Andrew Bennett) at a spacious farm for the summer. Awkward at first, the nine-year-old blossoms in an environment that is not emotionally impoverished. Here’s a beautiful film, based on a short story by Claire Keenan, in which looks and gestures carry enormous importance and that demonstrates the transformative power of what it means to be loved. It was an Oscar nominee in the Best International Feature Film category.
