Sammy Fabelman’s first moviegoing experience (a 1952 circus epic) quickly establishes an obsessive desire within him to become a filmmaker. Learning the trade pretty much on his own, his imaginative, homemade activity is encouraged by his Mother (Michelle Williams) but demeaned by his Dad (Paul Dano). Steven Spielberg’s 33rd feature film is a charming, often funny, semi-autobiographical (loosely based on his childhood–from age 5 to 18) tribute to family and filmmaking.
