Oklahoma, early 1920’s. The murder of numerous members of the Osage Nation which occur after oil is discovered on their tribal land prompts a major federal investigation. Martin Scorsese’s stunning three and a half hour revisionist Western saga (adapted from David Grann’s non-fiction book) has astonishing scope and psychological depth. The focus is on cattle baron William Hale (Robert De Niro), his nephew Ernest Burkhart (Leonardo DiCaprio) and Burkhart’s wife Mollie (Lily Gladstone)–of Osage descent. This major cinematic accomplishment will loom-large at year-end award time.
Starts Friday, October 20.
