2023, 107 min., PG-13

18th-century Paris. Joseph Bologne (Kelvin Harrison, Jr.) is the illegitimate son of a African slave and a French plantation owner who rises to improbable heights in Parisian society as a celebrated violinist-composer and skilled fencer. It’s time to discover Bologne (1745-1799), whose impressive life, accomplishments, romantic entanglements and defiance against the racist environment he inhabited are largely forgotten by history. Creative liberties are taken, but most of this lively, thrilling tale is true. A violin duet (more like a duel) is an astonishing highlight.

Starts Friday, April 21.
Advance screening on Thursday, April 20, at 7:00.
