Eastern Ukraine, 2025. Survivors of the brutal war between Russia and Ukraine attempt to adjust to a hardscrabble existence in almost uninhabitable surroundings. Can a military veteran (Andriy Rymauk) and a civilian volunteer (Liudmyla Bileka)—linked while unearthing and documenting battle casualties—discover reasons to unite and help rebuild a ruined world? Valentyn Vasyanovych’s prize-winning vision of humanity’s future has a universal relevance that is impossible to dismiss.
