It’s 1955 and a fictional town in the parched California-Nevada desert is bustling with a rag tag assortment of visitors, scheduled and unscheduled. All are involved with transformative events–primarily a Junior Stargazer convention (populated by youngsters, parents and teachers). But this is a Wes Anderson movie! Any semblance of a plot (dealing with melancholy and grief) is secondary to his scene-by-scene pleasures (festooned with mid-century Americana) and the variety-revue treatment of his star-studded cast. That impressive list includes Scarlett Johansson, Jeff Goldblum, Bryan Cranston and Tom Hanks.
