A cleaner of public toilets in Tokyo (Koji Yakusho) leads a simple, structured existence, managing to find beauty in the everyday world around him.  Outside of work, we learn of his passion for music and books, a love of trees and about a few personal complications in his life—past and present.  Here is an absorbing, lovely slice-of-life drama from veteran director Wim Wenders, containing a bravura performance by Yakusho.  An Oscar nominee for Best International Film, PERFECT DAYS is the first film not directed by a Japanese filmmaker to be nominated as the official Japanese entry.
